Quincy, Mass. – Football, favorite island destinations and other far-flung travel spots highlight the September-October 2012 issue of Fairways + Greens Magazine, now available on newsstands and at selected golf outlets and resorts across America.
Just in time for the kickoff of the 2012 NFL season, cover subject Drew Brees – who put together a career year last year as quarterback for the New Orleans Saints – talks about his love for the Hawaiian island of Kauai and the brand new Kukuiula development on the south shore, where he recently purchased a lot overlooking the incredible new Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course. Fairways + Greens caught up with Brees at his annual Drew Brees Foundation golf tournament in San Diego, where he has raised millions of dollars for local causes. read more….

“This is absolutely where I’m coming for my honeymoon,” I murmured to myself as I explored the heart-achingly, beautiful grounds of this $100+ million, 1,010-acre private resort community overlooking the Kukui’la Bay on the South Shore of Kauai near Poipu Beach. Of course, I have absolutely no marriage plans in the near (or even far) future, but spending a honeymoon week here would certainly sweeten the deal.
Unlike many restricted properties, Kukui’ula is the antithesis of stuffy elegance. In fact, this community, which is being built on the site of a century-old sugar plantation, is the epitome of laid-back luxury. The best part is that if you’d like to stay in one of the property’s castaway-chic plantation cottages (and trust me, you really do) you no longer have to buy one (prices begin at $2.2 million) although they will be more than happy to help you with your purchase if you’re interested. The clouds hanging over upscale vacation-home markets are starting to lift. While prices are still falling in most regions, the luxury segment is picking up, and brokers are reporting more inquiries than they have had in years.
The upshot: If you have the money and plan on staying put for the long term, now may be a good time to buy.
Five years after housing’s peak, markets that once were out of sight even for well-heeled buyers are now in range. On Hilton Head Island, S.C., a three-bedroom home nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Calibogue Sound changed hands in April for $750,000, after having sold for $1.2 million in June 2006. In Vail, Colo., a three-bedroom home that fetched $3.3 million in 2008 sold in February for $2.5 million. Click Here to Read Full Article

Windsor, N.C. – May 29, 2011 – There’s no blueprint for winning a professional golf tournament, but if there was, it would likely resemble Erik Barnes’ performance this week.
Barnes, a rookie on the NGA/Hooters Tour, shot a course-record 64 in the third round to grab a share of the lead, played the final round with two PGA Tour veterans and birdied the final hole of the Avoca Classic presented by Colony Tire at Scotch Hall Preserve to win his first NGA/Hooters Tour event by one stroke over Chris Wilson on Sunday. read more….
